FACULTY SERVICES

Drop-In Service allows your students to stop by the Writing Center for consultation on any project at any time during our operating hours--no appointment is necessary.  The Center has several writing advisors on hand every hour who are trained to give your students' work an objective reading.

The Regular Program allows your students to set up regular appointments with a specific writing advisor to work on aspects of writing that need particular attention. Have your students either stop by the Writing Center (112 Hollenbeck) or call (327-6154) to set up regular appointments.  When your students become Writing Center regulars, you can devote more time to course content both in class and in meetings with your students. Also, your students can benefit from consistent time allotted to improving their writing.

The Writing Fellows Program is designed to provide your students with consistent one-on-one attention. Writing fellows are designated advisors who work with your students on a specific assignment or for the duration of a particular course, whichever you prefer. You can meet with your writing fellows to familiarize them with your expectations and the objectives of particular assignments. You can also request  that the fellows send you reports describing your students' sessions. This program can be tailored to match your course and your needs. Contact Maureen Fry, director of the Writing Center, to find out more.

In-Class Writing Workshops allow our advisors to present writing-related topics to your classes. We can come to your classroom, or you can bring your class to the Writing Center. A twenty-minute orientation to the Center and its services can easily be arranged, or you may wish to combine the orientation with a workshop on a particular topic. Types of workshops include writing in a specific discipline, peer critique and editing, and documentation and citation.  Call (327-6154) to set up a workshop that addresses your interests.

Faculty and Staff Support includes consultation on drafting grant requests and proposals, revising material for publication, and developing writing assignments for students.  Writing Center staff have reviewed a variety of faculty and staff writing, including doctoral dissertations, chapters of textbooks, and articles for scholarly journals.  Contact Maureen Fry, the Writing Center director, for more information about this service.
