Writing Center Staff

The staff of the Writing Center is composed of 26 students representing a variety of academic fields. To become a writing advisor, recommended students are invited to take English 242: Writing and Peer Editing. The students who choose to take this class demonstrate a strong interest in writing and a commitment to helping others with their writing. Read on to meet some of our advisors!

Wendy Baker '09
English Major

I actually like to write and edit papers. Yeah…weird I know…but I make everything fun! Come and play with us in the Writing Center! We don’t bite…(unless provoked).

Krista Benner '08
English Major

My name is Krista (clap clap)

I like to write (clap clap)

Bring in your paper (clap clap)

Any day or night (clap clap clap clap)

Justin Blackwood '09
English Major

Unlike other universities, here at Wittenberg writing is not the insane-old-aunt-foaming-in-the-attic in the family of the humanities; rather, it’s more the crazed-inbred-cousin-locked-in-the-basement-doubling-as-a-watchdog. So when you need to break into the grim mansion of college bureaucracy, just remember – if nothing else, we advisors at least have bones to use to get past the dogs, and plenty of tortured metaphors besides.

Jordan Davis '09
English and Theatre Major

Hi everyone! My name is Jordan and I am in the class of 2009. I’m from Cincinnati, Ohio. I’m a double major in English and theatre, and I have a strong hatred for Gen. Ed. classes. If you want to be my best friend, make me a cake and sing me a pretty song and of course come to visit me all the time in the Writing Center.

Anna Hahn '08

History major

When I was told to write a good descriptive personal statement, I suddenly suffered from a serious case of writer’s block.  Maybe if you’re having the same problem, we can sit down and talk ~ I’ll try my best to help.

Katie Hudson '08

Education major

I’m a happy-go-lucky Aries who loves to smile.  I enjoy hot tea, good movies, being with people I love, long walks on the beach and writing.  You were with me until the last one, right?  Come visit me in the Writing Center—I can’t promise I’ll change your mind, but we can work through your paper together.

Evan Ingram '08
Biology Major

It was on the subway, sometime between circumstance and lymph nodes, that I struck up a conversation with a potted plant. He called himself Phil, and I knew we had trouble.

Andrea Ipjian '09
English and Women's Studies Major

I like sunshine, shooting stars, sushi, and apparently alliteration. Of course, the Writing Center’s not bad either.

Beth Janbergs '09

I’m Beth. I’m bad at personal statements. So let’s pretend this is a choose your own adventure story. Proceed to A if you’d actually like to learn something about me. Go to B for a random adjective. And skip to C if you’d like me to end the statement right now.

A.     I believe in equilibrium, scoff at romance, and generally get along well with people harboring hidden desires to take over the world.

B.     Effervescent

C.     Run away. Run away!

Lisa Martorano '08

Biology and Women's Studies majors

Since I was a little girl, writing has always been a passion of mine.  One of my goals as an advisor is to spread that passion on.  I’m always willing to help, and if I can get someone hooked on writing, then I’ve done my job.

Nick Patton '08

Political Science Major

I have an unnatural fear of squirrels.

Anna Reilly '09

WRITING WROXORZ, H8RZ

Ben Scott '09
Economics Major

I’m a 19-year old second year student (not really a sophomore, not really a junior. Basically, I’m too cool to be grouped so easily) who enjoys, among other things: cats; dogs; moonlit walks on deserted beached with famous dead authors; chipotle; days off; long nights; track and field; streaking the Hollow; movies and boardgames on rainy days; a fine, well-aged, oak barrel scotch; and long lists with very little to do with their original subjects.

Rebekah Stewart '08

Biology major

Hi!  I'll help you with your paper.

Ashley Troyer '08
English Major, Writing Minor

I’m a pretty laid back person – I like relaxing with an old movie and reading (except for class ☺). I love working with drafts, once the ideas are already on the page, and looking at the little details that could make the writing better.

Dan Zeleznik '09
English Major

Just a little advice:

  1. Visit the Writing Center
  2. Meet Wally
  3. Have Fun
  4. Get to love Facebook!
  5. Enjoy a piņa colada and get caught in the rain!

Maureen Fry
Director of the Writing Center
I think you'll find the Writing Center an inviting place to work on your writing. But even if you don't have a current writing project, I hope you'll stop by to look at our display of student art and pick up a complimentary copy of Spectrum or The Witt Review.
