Located along West Campus Drive across and north of Ferncliff Hall, Commencement Hollow has been the site for graduation ceremonies since 1927. Earlier ceremonies were held in the Springfield City Hall from 1851 to 1868; in Black's Opera House from 1869 to 1878; and in the campus grove, south of Myers Hall and east of Recitation Hall, from 1879 to 1926. Family and friends gather each year to celebrate the accomplishments of graduates.
