• MIKE ZALEHA, associate professor of geology, has been awarded a grant to complete an ambitious research agenda on the Mad River near campus. The research projects will involve students and will allow seniors to complete research projects through hands-on field experience. Read more ...

• CATHERING EGLEY WAGGONER, professor of communication, co-wrote Making Camp: Rhetorics of Transgression in U.S. Popular Culture, a new book that examines how communication constructs gender perseptions. Waggoner said that writing the book helped her understand more aspects of gendered communication — not just how men and women might communicate differently, but how communication influences our thoughts about gender. • BIN YU, professor of political science, presents the final program in the Noon Luncheon and Lecture Series on Friday, June 6, in the Li Room of the Benham-Pence Student Center. Yu will discuss the evolution of Chinese society during the last 30 years. Open to the public, the hour-and-a-half program includes a buffet lunch, followed by the lecture and a question-and-answer session. Reservations are $16 per person.

• HORTON HOBBS, professor of biology, was named president at the 117th annual gathering of the Ohio Academy of Science in April. Read more ...

• DAWN WHITE, associate director for residence life, received the 2008 Outstanding Service to Springfield Award. White has served with the Warder Literacy Center since May 2005, and for more than 15 years, she has been an active member and chaired several committees with Clark County Community Habitat For Humanity, the Human Relations Board of the City of Springfield and the Springfield Arts Council. White selected the Clark County Literacy Coalition to receive her $250 donation.
