Senior Salute 2012

Meet Jon Pozderac

At Wittenberg, “you will get the personal attention from your professors that will help you learn more than you would at a larger institution. When I had a professor stay and help my class with the homework until two in the morning, I knew the faculty here wanted me to succeed.” –Jon Pozderac ’12

While exploring many paths his first year on campus, Jon Pozderac eventually found his way to the physics department.

“It wasn’t until taking chemistry, biology and psychology, among other classes, that I found physics to be the major for me,” Pozderac says. “Picking mathematics as a minor also seemed to fit well with a physics major as I found the classes to be very helpful.”

Decision made, Pozderac jumped right into his studies, including becoming close friends with his advisor, Dan Fleisch, professor of physics and the 2010 Ohio Professor of the Year.

“Dr. Fleisch, really inspired me a lot during my time at Wittenberg,” Pozderac says. “His work ethic and desire to learn has been contagious. He was always there to guide me in the right direction whether it was picking classes or looking for summer internships. I feel as though after graduate school, I might work in industry or a research facility for a while until I possibly return to academia and become a professor to follow in Dr. Fleisch’s footsteps; it seems like a pretty good way to go about things.”

That path has distinct possibilities for Pozderac as he heads post-graduation to MIT’s Lincoln Laboratory for a summer internship with the institution’s Aerospace Sensor Technology group. After that, it’s back to the Buckeye state with a full ride.

“In August I will be returning to attend The Ohio State University with a University Fellowship to work my way toward a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering.”
