The Glass Menagerie To Be Presented

Friday, Oct. 2, 1998

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio---Wittenberg University's Theatre and Dance department will present Tennessee Williams' classic drama, "The Glass Menagerie" at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 8-10 with a 2 p.m. matinee Sunday, Oct. 11. All performances will be held in Chakeres Memorial Theatre, 909 Woodlawn Ave.

Since its Broadway premiere in 1945, Williams' autobiographical play has moved stage, television and film audiences. Based on his family's life in St. Louis in the late 1930s, "The Glass Menagerie" explores the universal conflict between the drive toward self-fulfillment and the love of family.

Corwin A. Georges, professor of theatre and dance, will direct the four-character cast featuring Alex Beekman as Tom, the role Tennessee Williams created to represent himself; Heather Ratliff as Amanda, Tom's mother; Emily Cook as Laura, Tom's sister; and Josh Atkins as Jim.

Tickets at $4 are available at the service desk in the Student Center. For ticket information call 937-327-7443. Parking is available in the Student Center parking lot and on the grass behind the theatre.
