SPRINGFIELD, Ohio--- To celebrate Wittenberg University's Charter Day, the Wittenberg Choir, directed by Donald A. Busarow, professor of music, will present a free public concert at 8 p.m. Friday, March 19 in Weaver Chapel on campus.
The concert commemorates the 154th anniversary of the Ohio Legislature issuing a charter for the operation of Wittenberg University. The event also concludes the Wittenberg Choir's 17th annual spring tour. Following the concert, refreshments will be served in the Alumni & Visitors Center, 134 W. Ward St. Parking is available in the lot behind the Student Center.
During this year's spring tour, the 60-voice group performed 13 concerts in Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Maryland, Washington, D.C. and Ohio. In previous tours the choir has travelled across the United States, Canada, Latin America, Europe and Russia.
Featured in Friday's concert will be the motet of J.S. Bach "Komm, Jesu, Komm" (sung in German) for two choirs. A variety of works from the 16th through the 20th centuries will be included, and a set of spirituals will complete the program.
A former Ohio Governor designated the Wittenberg Choir Ohio's Musical Ambassadors of Good Will for its leading position among the nation's college choirs.
