INDIANA PAINTER DEBRA CLEM TO PRESENT GALLERY TALK AT WITTENBERG

February 15, 2001

Springfield, Ohio - Debra Clem, assistant professor of fine arts at Indiana University Southeast, will lecture on her recent paintings at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22 in Kissell Auditorium, Koch Hall. Clem's work is currently on exhibit in the Ann Miller Gallery of Koch Hall, Wittenberg University.

Clem received a bachelor of fine arts from Bowling Green State University and a master of fine arts from Pennsylvania State University. According to the artist's statement for the exhibition Clem's goal "...is to make paintings in which even disparate images can create a dialogue that transforms the final image into ...more than the sum of its parts."

Clem's most recent painting "Rhapsody" is an exploration based on her previous work. "For me, emotion and personality is conveyed primarily through our face and hands. Using larger-than-life scale, I have focused on these particular aspects of the human form as a way of capturing that expressive potential."

Debra Clem's work will be on exhibit in the Ann Miller Gallery through Friday, Feb. 23. A reception in the gallery will immediately follow the lecture on Thursday, Feb. 22.
