ANTI-SWEATSHOP CRUSADERS TO SPEAK

February 23, 2001

Springfield, Ohio - The Wittenberg student social-awareness group STAND will host a lecture by Jim Keady and Leslie Kretzu, on their work against Indonesian sweatshops at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 26, in Room 300 Krieg Hall.

The two human rights activists spent the summer living on $1.25 a day in Tangerang, Indonesia, in solidarity with factory workers who make shoes for western corporations for the same wage.

STAND (Students Taking Action Now Dammit!) is sponsoring the talk to increase awareness of the plight of people who they say are denied a living wage to benefit wealthy companies, according to group member Katie Martin.
