"LEND ME A TENOR" TO BE PRESENTED AT WITTENBERG

March 29, 2001

Springfield, Ohio - The Department of Theatre and Dance at Wittenberg University will present Ken Ludwig's comedy "Lend Me a Tenor" in Chakeres Memorial Theatre, 905 Woodlawn Ave.

Performances are scheduled at 8 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, April 5-7 and 2 p.m. Sunday, April 8. Tickets are $4 and may be reserved by calling the Service Center Desk at (937) 327-7443.

Guest Director Walter Rhodes will guide the actors in this farce about a group of people in Cleveland, Ohio who want to be major players in the opera world of the 1930s.

"Lend Me a Tenor" opened on Broadway in March 1989 and was nominated for seven Tony Awards. Winning two of those, in addition to four Drama Desk Awards and three Outer Critics Circle Awards, it has been performed throughout the world in eight languages.

During the early 1990s, U.S. News and World Report ranked Wittenberg, first as number one in the Midwest, and since then as among the top national liberal arts institutions. "The Insider's Guide to Colleges," published by the Yale Daily News, considers the theatre and dance department to be one of Wittenberg's top three departments.
