A law enforcement officer with the Clark County Sheriff's Office for more than 30 years, McKenney has served in a variety of capacities, most recently as general operations commander since 1998. In that position, McKenney oversaw the daily workings of the road, jail, investigations and court services divisions. He also supervised four lieutenants, 18 sergeants, 103 uniform personnel and 19 communication operators.
He has won numerous awards and commendations, including the Law Enforcement Commendation Medal from the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution in 1996, various commendations from the Clark County Office of the Sheriff, the Award for Meritorious Service from the Springfield Association of Life Underwriters, and a Certificate of Appreciation from the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States.
In his new position, McKenney will plan, organize, direct, coordinate and evaluate all campus law enforcement efforts. He will be on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week in an effort to lead public safety and community service programs, enforcement of all local, state and federal laws and adherence to university policies and procedures.
