LUTHER SYMPOSIUM AND FESTIVAL CHORAL EUCHARIST TO BE HELD AT WITTENBERG UNIVERSITY

Springfield, Ohio - The Reformation and Martin Luther will be the focus of two major Wittenberg Series events Oct. 29 & 31.

The fourth annual Kenneth H. Sauer Luther Symposium will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29 in Kissell Auditorium, Koch Hall, on the Wittenberg University campus.

The symposium will begin with an address by Robert Benne, theologian and director of the Center for Religion and Society at Roanoke College, Roanoke, Virginia. He will speak on "The Vocation of a Lutheran University." A panel discussion will follow.

The annual Festival Choral Eucharist for Reformation will be held at 8 p.m., Wednesday, Oct.31 in Weaver Chapel. Special music by the Wittenberg Choir and Handbell Choir will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Preaching will be the Rev. Gary L. Hansen, Bishop of the North/West Lower Michigan Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA).

The Kenneth H. Sauer Symposium was endowed in his honor when he retired in 1996 as Bishop of the Southern Ohio Synod, ELCA. A 1952 graduate of Wittenberg and a graduate of Hamma School of Theology, Sauer has served as director of the Institute for Mission in the USA at Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus since 1996.
