WITTENBERG INCREASES LEVELS FOR CLARK COUNTY AND MIAMI VALLEY SCHOLARSHIPS

November 21, 2001

Springfield, Ohio - Wittenberg University has made the Clark County and Miami Valley Scholarship program more attractive for this year's new student class by raising the scholarship from $5,000 per year to $7,500 annually. This new scholarship will reduce the cost of tuition by $30,000 for an undergraduate degree at the liberal arts and sciences university. Currently, annual tuition at Wittenberg is $22,680.

"We hope this increase in the scholarship will enable more area students to consider the educational opportunities available at Wittenberg. We would like to continue the growth in the number of local students on campus in coming years," says Ken Benne, dean of admission. This fall, 42 students have been awarded the Clark County Scholarship and are enrolled this semester. Neighboring counties are well represented also with a total of 58 students awarded the Miami Valley Scholarship including 25 students from Montgomery, 14 students from Champaign, 10 students from Greene, five students from Madison and four students from Miami.

Benne says that some of Wittenberg's best students come from local area high schools, and several thousand alumni stay in the area, benefiting all aspects of the Springfield and surrounding community in countless ways.

"This award is a our way of thanking the local community for all the support it has given Wittenberg over the years, and it is a way in which Wittenberg can enable more local students to attend one of the finest private liberal arts and science colleges in the country right here in Springfield," Benne concludes.

Applications are accepted for students between the ages of 17 and 22 who have received their diplomas from Clark County high schools and who qualify for admission to Wittenberg.
