Richard L. "Dick" Kuss

Born in Springfield, Ohio in 1923, Richard Kuss is retired president of the Bonded Oil Company. He began his studies at Wittenberg University in 1941 but left to serve as a lieutenant jg in the U.S. Navy. He resumed his studies after the war and graduated in 1945. He joined Bonded Oil and was named company president in 1967. During his years with Bonded the company grew from a small local chain of local filling stations to a company operating 225 outlets in four states. Kuss began his record of community involvement early in his career, serving on boards of the Springfield Chamber of Commerce, the Ohio Foundation for Independent Colleges, Ohio Presbyterian Homes to name a few. As a fund-raiser and philanthropist he has benefited United Way, the Clark County Mental Health Board, Clark State Performing Arts Center, Mercy Hospital Community Hospital and many others. At Wittenberg Kuss has played a leadership role in each of the university’s fund-raising efforts since 1952. He has served on the university board of directors and as president of its alumni association. He has received numerous awards and honors, including an honorary degree and the Medal of Honor from Wittenberg.
