Since its opening on May 8, 1777, at the Drury Lane Theatre in London, Richard Brinsley Sheridan's "The School for Scandal" has entertained audiences around the world. Writing in the style of the Restoration's comedy of manners, Sheridan tells the story of Charles and his brother Joseph Surface. Both pursue Maria, ward of Sir Peter Teazle-Charles for her love, Joseph for her money.
Corwin Georges, Wittenberg professor of theatre and dance, will guide the actors through this witty satirical play which ridicules false sentiment, superficiality and the gossips of 18th century London.
"The Insider's Guide to Colleges," published by the Yale Daily News, considers Wittenberg's theatre and dance department to be one of the university's top three departments.
