SPRINGFIELD, Ohio -Wittenberg University will welcome the Christmas season with an evening of activities on Friday, Dec. 6.
A public tree lighting ceremony will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Woodlawn Avenue, opposite the Benham-Pence Student Center. Vocal a cappella groups Wittmen Crew and Just Eve will perform as part of the tree lighting.
At 8 p.m. the annual Lessons and Carols for Advent and Christmas will be held in Weaver Chapel featuring Wittenberg Choir, Wittenberg Handbell Choir, Wittenberg Singers, Wittenberg Flute Choir and Chamber Singers. Pre-service music begins at 7:30 p.m.
The annual candlelight service is presented by more than 100 students, faculty and staff and is one of the university's oldest traditions. The service will begin in darkness with the introductory Service to Light and will conclude with the candlelight singing of "Silent Night."
