Community Invited as Holiday Tradition Continues Dec. 5

December 1, 2003

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - Wittenberg University will sponsor the 22nd annual Community Sing of George Friedrich Handel's Messiah at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8, in Weaver Chapel.

Basil Fett, choral director at Wayne High School and Covenant Presbyterian Church, will conduct soloists, a string quartet and chorus in selections from Parts I and II of this choral masterpiece.

Soloists for the evening will include 2000 Wittenberg graduate Rebecca Weaver, soprano, Carla Drye, alto, Michael Wright, tenor, and J. Chris Moore, baritone. Trudy Faber, Wittenberg professor of music, will accompany on both organ and harpsichord. The string quartet will consist of Lucinda Krahn, Lesa Polley, Patricia King and Dan Kazez, Wittenberg professor of music.

Anyone who enjoys singing is invited to be a part of the chorus. Established choirs are urged to attend together and enjoy this impromptu singing experience with hundreds of voices. Singers are asked to furnish their own complete score.

Although there is no admission charge, persons attending may make a freewill donation to help offset the cost of the performance. For more information, call the music department at (937) 327-7340.
