SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - Since its official debut in 2001, Wittenberg University's WittLINK Portal, a secure, one-stop, online, personalized informational resource for students, faculty, alumni and parents, has considerably expanded its offerings to provide even more options for registered users.
In addition to supplying alumni users with access to Wittenberg's online directory so classmates can reconnect, the portal allows alumni to update their biographical information, join a discussion group or locate the nearest alumni chapter in their area. Wittenberg currently has alumni chapters in Ann Arbor, Mich., Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Louisville/Southern Indiana, New York City, Pittsburgh, Reading, Pa., the Rocky Mountain Region, Rochester, N.Y., the San Francisco Bay area, Southern California and Washington, D.C. Thanks to the portal, chapter captains, alumni volunteers who maintain a city-specific chapter page, can also now post meeting minutes from their own computers along with event information.
"The portal is a wonderful way for users to stay connected with Wittenberg and each other," said Evangeline Heiliger Saari, assistant director of alumni relations.
Portal-registered alumni, students, faculty and parents can also take advantage of another new feature, a personal address book. Designed with users' lifestyles in mind, this feature provides a secure, easy method for individuals to update and maintain their e-mail address lists. Individuals can then access their respective addresses from any computer with Internet access worldwide.
"The personal address book will follow you anywhere," explained Dan Nelson, Wittenberg programmer.
The portal also provides users with access to Wittenberg's own secure Web mail system as well as a survey area, which will allow the university to learn more about its constituents in the future. Privacy options are also available for all registered users.
