Wittenberg Sponsors Holocaust History Materials for Miami Valley School Use

March 24, 2003

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio --For the fourth straight year Wittenberg University has sponsored an educational supplement to help teach area school children the history of the Holocaust.

In recent years Wittenberg has been a leader in scholarship and teaching about religious intolerance. This week the university will host a four-day international conference on "The Dreyfus Affair: Race, Religion, and the Molding of National Identity." The conference will examine the 19th century treason trial of a Jewish officer in the French army.

That follows an earlier international conference also hosted by Wittenberg called “Teaching the Holocaust: Issues and Dilemmas.”

Dozens of area school teachers at many grade levels requested the latest educational supplement for use in their history, social studies or civics classes. This publication, produced by Knight Ridder Productions Inc., is titled “The Holocaust Remembering the Past; Safeguarding the Future.”

The publication was provided to area schools by Cox Newspapers Inc. as part of the Newspapers in Education program.
