Music Abounds as the Year Comes to an End at Wittenberg University

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - Two free public concerts will be held in Krieg Hall on the Wittenberg University campus on Sunday, May 4.

In room 100 at 3 p.m., the Wittenberg Symphonic Band will be featured in a "pops" concert, under the direction of Tom Kennedy, associate professor of music. The band will perform selections from "Phantom of the Opera," "The Producers" and "The Wizard of Oz." Daniel Laciano, a band director with the Urbana City Schools, will perform Leroy Anderson's "A Trumpeter's Lullaby" and Joyce Wendel, soprano and associate professor of music, will sing "America the Beautiful" with the band.

The Wittenberg Opera Studio, under the direction of Kenneth Scheffel, associate professor of music, will present "A Studio Performance of Three One-Act Operas" at 8 p.m. in room 300. Featured in the program will be operas by Thomas Pasatieri, Samuel Barber and W.A. Mozart. Performers include seniors Jacqueline Stevens and Sarah Bragdon, sopranos; Bethany Dourson, mezzo-soprano; Jay Scouten, tenor; Jesse Calhoun and sophomore Seth Colaner, baritones.
