The Annual Gabrieli Brass Festival Will Be Presented Sunday

March 31, 2004

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The annual presentation of the Gabrieli Brass Festival will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 4, in Weaver Chapel on the Wittenberg University campus.

This celebration of the music of Giovanni Gabrieli and other composers for brass instruments is hosted by the Wittenberg Brass Choir, under the direction of Daniel Zehringer, adjunct instructor of music.

Guest ensembles will include the Wright State University Trumpet Ensemble and Bowling Green State University Tuba/Euphonium Ensemble. The Virtuoso Brass, a professional brass quintet consisting of musicians from the Cincinnati and Dayton area, will also perform.

Always a favorite part of the concert, the finale will feature music by the mass ensemble. The acoustics of Weaver Chapel are ideal for the antiphonal brass music composed by Gabrieli.

The Gabrieli Brass Festival is free and open to the public. For more information contact the music department at (937) 327-7341.
