SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Conservation Club at Wittenberg University will hold its second annual Earth Week celebration April 19-24. Earth Week, which was started by the club to commemorate Earth Day, will include speakers and a forum on recycling and conservation.
At 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, in Bayley Auditorium of the Barbara Deer Kuss Science Center, the Caving Club will present Dr. Rane Curl, who will speak about cave conservation.
An open forum on recycling and conservation will be held at 4 p.m., Thursday, April 22, also in Bayley Auditorium. A panel of faculty and staff will be available to present information on issues that relate to the Wittenberg community and to answer questions from the audience.
Scheduled to be part of the panel are John Paulsen, director of physical plant; Mark Ellison, assistant professor of chemistry; Matt Collier, visiting assistant professor of biology; and Artimus Keiffer, assistant professor of geography. The panel is open to all interested faculty, staff and students.
A picnic, which will wrap up the week's activities, will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 24, on Woodlawn Avenue. All members of the Wittenberg community are welcome to attend and enjoy free food and drinks if they bring a reusable cup and plate. According to Conservation Club president Lindsay Konkel, this is to eliminate trash, as well as to raise awareness about how much waste can be prevented when reusable dishware is used. Entertainment during the picnic will be provided by the female a cappella group Just Eve.
Due to cancellations from various speakers, no other events are currently planned for Earth Week this year, but Conservation Club members are still working on several other opportunities. Check the Benham-Pence Student Center for additional events to be held during Earth Week.
