Wittenberg University Names Evan Lipp
To Lead Enrollment Management Efforts

June 11, 2004

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - Evan Lipp, dean of enrollment management at St. Francis University in Loretto, Pa., has been named associate vice president of enrollment management at Wittenberg University effective June 22.

Enrollment Management, a more comprehensive approach to promoting student success, is increasingly being used in higher education. In addition to having direct-line responsibility for the admission and financial aid offices, Lipp will coordinate and assess the university’s retention efforts, chair the Enrollment Management Committee, assist in developing institutional research to support enrollment initiatives in coordination with the registrar’s office, and encourage campus-wide input on enrollment goals and strategies. He will report to interim Wittenberg President Bill Steinbrink.

Lipp brings considerable experience to this new position. During his seven-year tenure at St. Francis, Lipp helped to increase freshmen deposits by 18 percent, campus visitations by 20 percent and inquiries by 15 percent during the 2003-04 academic year. The college’s SAT scores, ethnic diversity and out-of-state population also increased under his leadership. In addition, Lipp enhanced St. Francis’ academic profile, designed e-recruitment and Web-based strategies, created and coordinated a communication plan in collaboration with the campus community, implemented new financial aid software and improved the college’s visitation programs, among other achievements.

Prior to St. Francis, Lipp served as director of admissions at Albion College in Albion, Mich., where he successfully managed a four-state recruitment territory, and developed a tracking system to measure contacts between the college and prospects. He also designed and implemented an annual $1.5 million merit-based scholarship program and created an award-winning program that improved diversity by 50 percent in its first year.

“Evan Lipp brings great enthusiasm, a winning manner, boundless energy, and a fine track record to this new position,” said Interim President Bill Steinbrink. “Much will be expected of him, but I have every confidence that he is up to the challenge.”

Lipp, who earned his M.A. in educational leadership from Western Michigan University and his B.A. in economics from Marietta College, is a member of the National Association for College Admission Counseling, The College Board and the American Marketing Association. He has also served on numerous boards, and he has presented at high schools and conferences throughout Michigan and Pennsylvania. He and his wife Heather have two sons, Jacob, 12, and Campbell, 9.
