Josephine F. Wilson

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - Josephine F. Wilson, the Paul Luther Keil Endowed Chair of Psychology at Wittenberg University, has been selected to receive an outstanding achievement award from her alma mater, the State University of New York (SUNY) Fredonia. She will head to New York this weekend to be recognized during the university's annual Homecoming Alumni Awards Luncheon.

Wilson, a 1974 psychology graduate of SUNY Fredonia, earned her doctorate in psychology from Columbia University. She also holds a doctorate in dental surgery from SUNY Buffalo.

A member of the Wittenberg faculty since 1982, Wilson has received many awards for her teaching and research excellence. In addition to the Keil Endowed Chair of Psychology, Wilson received the 1988 Omicron Delta Kappa Award for Excellence in Teaching and the 1993 Alumni Association Award for Distinguished Teaching.

The scholar and social scientist studies the development of appetite in preschool children, energy intake regulation in adolescents and a rat model for arousal-induced eating and anorexic behavior. Her most recent book, Biological Foundations of Human Behavior, was published in 2002, and she is the recipient of several research grants.

Wilson teaches courses in behavioral neuroscience, health psychology, psychology of women, and sensation and perception.

She will be giving a lecture to psychology students at SUNY Fredonia on Friday, followed by a general lecture on Saturday after receiving her award.
