Springfield, Ohio — The Wittenberg University department of music will present Petar Jankovic, international award-winning classical guitarist, at 8 p.m., Friday, Sept. 24, in Krieg Hall, room 300, on campus.
After beginning guitar studies at age 8, Jankovic had his first professional performance at age 16. Since 1985, he has performed numerous recitals and given master classes throughout Europe and the United States.
As a student in his native Yugoslavia, where he earned his degree in classical guitar from the Music Academy in Belgrade, Jankovic also won important prizes at the National Music Competitions.
In 1996, Jankovic was invited to the United States to pursue the prestigious Artist Diploma Degree at Indiana University School of Music. In 1997, while still finishing his graduate degree, he created a guitar program at Franklin College in Indiana. Currently, Jankovic is a faculty member at the Indiana University School of Music, University of Indianapolis and at Franklin College.
According to the Bloomington, Ind. Herald Times, "When people listen to Petar, while they are conscious of listening to a classical guitar player, they are also conscious of hearing a real person expressing honest emotions through playing."
The recital is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the music department at (937) 327-7341.
