SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Second City Touring Company will deliver first-class sketch comedy to the Wittenberg University community in two sold-out shows Friday, Oct. 28. The two “Best of the Second City” performances will take place in Chakeres Memorial Theater on Alumni Way at 6:30 and 9:30 p.m.

However, all of the free tickets for the event have been distributed.

Named for the city of Chicago’s inferiority complex, the Second City Touring Company will bring its best material and performers to Wittenberg in a performance of its classic show titled “The Best of the Second City.” Featuring a cast of six actors, a stage manager and a musical director, the “Best of the Second City” performance consists of two acts. The company’s cast will also host an improvisational comedy workshop for Wittenberg theater students prior to the performances.

With such alums as accomplished actors Dan Ackroyd, Alan Alda, John Belushi, John Candy, Chris Farley, Shelley Long, Gilda Radner, Martin Short and George Wendt, the Second City Touring Company has a long and colorful history.

The Second City Touring Company performance is a Wittenberg Series event co-sponsored by the Wittenberg Guild, a women’s organization that has contributed more than $800,000 to Wittenberg since its founding in 1940.

Every year, the Wittenberg Series brings distinguished lecturers and performing artists of national and international prominence to the campus and local community.
