To Reveal Thesis Exhibit

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The culmination of work by nine senior studio art majors will be revealed from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, April 9, in an opening reception of the annual Senior Thesis Exhibit in the Ann Miller Gallery in Wittenberg’s Koch Hall.

The exhibit is an annual event that showcases the yearlong projects of these innovative and talented seniors. The show displays an array of concentrations ranging from ceramics and drawing to painting and printmaking.

“The work being exhibited is unique in the sense that each student is working on a diverse range of media, and each student has found an original direction for his or her creative expressions,” said Ed Charney, associate professor of art and instructor of the senior thesis class.

Each senior selected a specific area of concentration for his or her thesis, which will be displayed in the exhibit. Stacy Burkhart of Norwich, Ohio, focused on painting; Shannon Fields of Hamilton, Ohio, concentrated on ceramics; Anna Finkelstein of Whitehall, Mich., focused on drawing; Joel Henson of Sidney, Ohio, concentrated on painting; Judson Lohman of Saint Paul, Minn., focused on printmaking; Missy Long of Mt. Orab, Ohio, concentrated on ceramics; Julie Pfirsch of Bucyrus, Ohio, focused on painting; Davey Waugh of Springfield, Ohio, concentrated on printmaking; and Mallory Woods of Urbana, Ohio, focused on ceramics.

Woods said that each student’s artwork has the potential to make an impact, “whether it is on an intellectual level or whether they (the students) are strictly about design.

“Each student has their own message they want to get across,” Woods said.

All of the students began developing the focus for their senior thesis projects last summer. Since the projects were approved in September, each student has been actively working on them throughout the school year.

“Their art work is the end result of four years of training and maturation in our art program,” Ed Charney said.

The free exhibit opens with the aforementioned reception on April 9. After the opening day, the exhibit will be open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday, through the end of the semester. The exhibit will close on May 13 after graduation activities conclude.
