Peter Cooley |
Cooley, a native of Detroit but a resident of New Orleans since 1975, has published seven books of poetry, including The Company Of Strangers, The Room Where Summer Ends, Nightseasons, The Van Gogh Notebook, The Astonished Hours and Sacred Conversations and A Place Made Of Starlight. His latest work, Divine Margins, is scheduled to be published in 2007.
Cooley’s poems have appeared in The New Yorker, Poetry, The Atlantic, The Nation, The New Republic, Southern Review, more than 500 magazines and more than 90 anthologies. He has taught creative writing and poetry to students at all levels of study, from master’s level to nursery school. In addition, Cooley has taught the mentally ill and the incarcerated.
Cooley’s reading is sponsored by Wittenberg’s Department of English as part of the bi-annual Ohio Poets Circuit Series, which also includes Kenyon, Muskingum, Ohio State, Otterbein, Ohio Wesleyan, Denison, Wittenberg, Miami and Cincinnati. These schools work together to select two poets to visit each year, with Cooley’s reading being a featured event in celebration of National Poetry Month 2006.
