Headlining the annual spring music festival is the New Orleans-based alternative-rock band Better Than Ezra, set to perform at 9:30 p.m. Formed in 1987, Better Than Ezra released its first nationally distributed album titled Deluxe in 1993, which included the No. 1 hit single “Good.” Since then, Better Than Ezra has released eight albums, including a greatest hits compilation and a live album. Most recently, the band released an album titled Before the Robots in May 2005.
Wittfest, sponsored by Union Board, will also include performances by a wide range of campus groups, including musical acts WittMen Crew and Just Eve, the university’s all-male and all-female a cappella groups, and the Wittenberg Faculty Rock Ensemble & Entourage (Witt FREE). Organized in 2004 by Thomas Taylor, professor of history, vocalist, guitarist and keyboard master, Witt FREE features Professor of Chemistry and guitarist Dave Finster, Assistant Professor of English and guitarist Rick Incorvati, Associate Professor of Languages and guitarist Tim Bennett, Wittenberg Class of 1978, and journalist and percussionist Tom Stafford, class of 1976. Associate Professor of English Lori Askeland, Biology Lab Coordinator Ruth Lewis and Assistant Professor of Education Steve Broidy, all vocalists, put the words to music.
In addition, the Wittenberg Dance Team, the Wittenberg Dance Company and Pocket Lint, the campus improv troupe, are scheduled to perform.
Other activities include inflatable games from noon to 6 p.m. with an obstacle course, velcro wall, Xtreme trampoline, jousting and a bungee run. From 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. novelty acts, such as henna tattoos, graffiti art and name creations will be available in Myers Hollow.
Carnival food will be sold, and students will be able to use their meal plan at the Dining Services meal booth. All-you-can-eat hot dogs, hamburgers, grilled chicken, garden burgers and more will be available for lunch from 11 a.m.-3:30 p.m., and dinner from 3:30-7 p.m. Wristbands will be issued so that students may return at any time during their paid meal period.
