SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The culmination of months of late night rehearsals will be spotlighted this weekend as dancers in the Wittenberg University senior dance concert, “Breakthrough,” take the stage. Performances at 7:30 p.m. Friday-Saturday, April 28-29, and 2 p.m. Sunday April 30, in Wittenberg’s Chakeres Memorial Theatre, are free and open to the public.
Produced by seniors, the concert features students from all class years and offers a mix of modern, tap, jazz and hip-hop dance.
Since the auditions in January, they have committed many hours to developing a program to showcase the talents of each dancer.
“I did not realize how time consuming the project would really be,” said Samantha McCoy, class of 2007 of Springfield, Ohio. “But the show has really come together.”
Though all of the students involved are not seniors, this concert specifically showcases the knowledge of the seniors who played an important role in developing the pieces that make up the production. Not only did each senior have the responsibility of developing the ideas, they were also in charge of directing and choreographing each piece. In addition, they were responsible for fundraising, scheduling rehearsals and advertising.
“Each senior has put their heart into it,” said McCoy, “You can see that each specific piece really means something to each of them.”
The concert has taken four months of hard work and dedication on the part of every member of the ensemble. This weekend will allow the audience to experience the payoff for their efforts.
