“Doug brings 23 years of recruitment, financial aid, budget management and staff supervision experience to this new position at Wittenberg, and I’m confident that he will provide the vision and leadership we need in our enrollment area. I am very pleased to welcome him both to the university’s senior management team and the Wittenberg family,” Erickson said.
During his eight years as dean of enrollment management at Westminster, Swartz initiated recruitment efforts that met or exceeded enrollment goals, including a 34 percent increase in applications. In addition, Swartz developed a “Diversity Initiative,” which resulted in a 75 percent increase in minority students, oversaw market research efforts at the college, and developed long-term relationships with key strategic partners for communications, student search and inquiry pool management, emerging technologies and Web development.
As dean, Swartz also served on the President’s Administrative Staff, chaired the Enrollment Management Council and chaired the Board of Trustees’ Enrollment Management Committee. He will continue to serve in similar capacities at Wittenberg, where he will oversee all aspects of the university’s admission and financial aid efforts, and manage a staff of 13, including Brad Pochard, Wittenberg’s newly named director of admission, and Randy Green, the university’s director of financial aid. At the same time, Swartz will work collaboratively with other core enrollment-related offices and work closely with faculty, staff, students, alumni and members of the Wittenberg board of directors to enhance Wittenberg’s enrollment efforts.
“I’m very pleased to return to the Buckeye State and join the team at Wittenberg,” Swartz said. “I am impressed by Wittenberg’s excellent academic reputation and great athletic tradition, and President Erickson’s vision for Wittenberg is inspiring. I look forward to working at one of this nation’s finest private colleges.”
Prior to his work at Westminster, Swartz served as director of admission at Walsh University in North Canton, Ohio, where he exceeded new student enrollment goals the last four years of his tenure.
An avid tennis player and runner, Swartz earned his M.A. from Walsh University in 1985 and his B.A. from Malone College. He and his wife Kathy will be moving to Springfield shortly along with their 13-year-old daughter Carli.
