Nov. 1, 2006

Akber Mohammed and Mustafaa Islam

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — Students in the Department of Theatre and Dance at Wittenberg University will slip on their dancing shoes this week to present the annual Fall Dance Concert. Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Thursday – Saturday, Nov. 2 – 4, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, in Chakeres Memorial Theatre, 909 Woodlawn Ave.

Under the artistic direction of Shih-Ming Li Chang, Wittenberg associate professor of dance, the concert will include dances from a variety of genres, including hip-hop, ballet, jazz and tap.

The dancers have been hard at work for more than two months preparing for the show, which will feature 17 dance numbers. Guest choreographers Ashley Roseberry, Wittenberg class of 2006, and Melanie Aceto from New York, provided artistic support, and 13 Wittenberg students also contributed their time and talents to create the choreography for 15 of the performances to be showcased.

The team of students who both danced and choreographed numbers includes Kristin Slusser, class of 2006, from New Albany, Ohio; Renee Uhlmann, class of 2007, from Columbia, Maryland; class of 2008 members: Amy Fickert, Springfield, Ohio; Kim Ingland, Obetz, Ohio; and Kelly Jo Zink, St. Marys, Ohio; and class of 2009 members: Blaire Butler, Cincinnati, Ohio; Jordan Davis, Maineville, Ohio; Katie Eberts, Pickerington, Ohio; Caitlin Hedrick, Solon, Ohio; Greta Hysjulien, White Bear Lake, Minnesota; and Liz Russel, Solon, Ohio.

The cast of dancers include class of 2007 members Dana Larson, from Carmel, Indiana and Carolyn Seymour, from Dayton, Ohio; class of 2008: Natalie Bacon, Avon Lake, Ohio; Sarah Kennedy, Cincinnati, Ohio; Zoe Lamberson, Canfield, Ohio; Kara Beth Neike, Pickerington, Ohio; Kari Phelan, Fishers, Indiana; and Elissa Ward, Springfield, Ohio; class of 2009: Lauren Butch, Bay Village, Ohio; Michelle Costello, Muncie, Indiana; Heather Decatur, Dublin, Ohio; Kelliea Johnson, Canton, Ohio; Rachel Lind, Gahanna, Ohio; Christi Lue, Diego Martin, Trinidad; Kyna McKinney, Gahanna, Ohio; Jenny Petro, Louisville, Ky.; Cassidy Short, Westlake, Ohio; Amanda Wells, Findlay, Ohio; Julie Ziegler, Sandusky, Ohio; and class of 2010: Jessica Bailey, Greenville, Ohio; Erin Berger, Louisville, Ky.; Lisa Kroupa, Cridersville, Ohio; Sarah Larson, St. Louis, Missouri; and Noelle Payton, Vessem, Netherlands.

The technical skills of a scenic and lighting crew, as well as a costume crew, promise to add life the dances and help tell the dancers’ stories.

Tickets are $4 and can be purchased at the Service Desk in the basement of the Benham-Pence Student Center, or at the theatre one hour before each performance. For ticket reservations, call (937) 327-7443.
