Wittenberg Series Features Annual Lessons and Carols
for Advent and Christmas On Dec. 1

Nov. 29, 2006

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The 2006-07 Wittenberg Series continues this week with the university’s annual Lessons and Carols for Advent and Christmas service, which is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1 in Weaver Chapel. Pre-service music will begin at 7 p.m.

The traditional service, which has been celebrated in Weaver Chapel for more than 30 years, is marked by the lighting of hundreds of candles in Wittenberg’s annual celebration of the holiday season. Scheduled performers include the Wittenberg Choir, the Wittenberg Handbell Choir, the Wittenberg Singers and the Wittenberg Flute Choir.

Lessons and Carols for Advent and Christmas is a combination of two services — Advent Choral Vespers and Lessons and Carols for Epiphany. The event will begin with the Service of Light, in which the chapel will be enveloped in darkness and gradually illuminated by candles. The performances will include the Quempas Carrollers, a chorus of four selected female students, and it will end with a singing of the traditional Christmas favorite Silent Night.

All Wittenberg Series events are free of charge and open to the public.
Every year, the Wittenberg Series brings distinguished lecturers and performing artists of national and international prominence to the campus and local community.
