Fall Classes Scheduled Through Wittenberg's
Center for Musical Development

Springfield, Ohio – The Center for Musical Development (CMD) at Wittenberg University announces its 2007 Fall Music Classes for young children and adults in the community.

Discovering Music for Children ages 3-5 will meet from 10-10:45 a.m. on Saturdays from Sept. 22 through Nov. 10. Designed to begin the young child's exploration of the world of music, the class will include singing, rhythms, stories, craft projects and an introduction to the sounds and shapes of instruments. Parents are invited to participate. Tiffany Cary will teach the class.

Ensemble Playing I and II for Children will meet between 5 and 7 p.m. on the first Friday of each month, Oct. 5, Nov. 2 and Dec. 7 (three sessions). Students must know the literature from Suzuki Violin Book 1. Ensemble Class I teaches the children how to play together. Ensemble II teaches more playing music together, adding simple harmonies and dynamics. Parents are encouraged to attend classes with their children. Carol Pederson will teach the class.

Beginning Piano for Kids in grades K-2 will meet from 5:15-6 p.m., and grades 3-5 will meet from 6:15-7 p.m. on eight Tuesdays from Sept. 20 through Nov. 8. Students will learn to read music and musical notation, find keyboard landmarks and play rhythms and simple pieces. They will also play music of increasing challenge in a state-of-the-art piano lab. Tiffany Cary will teach the class.

Beginning Piano for Adults for high school students and adults will meet from 7:15-8 p.m. on eight Fridays beginning Sept. 21. Participants will learn to play the piano, read music and musical notation and rhythms in a small group setting. Jack McPeek will teach the class.

Voice Class for high school students and adults will meet from 7:30-8:15 p.m. on eight Tuesdays beginning Sept. 18. Participants will learn to sing properly to use their voices for many years. Students will learn how to warm up, use proper diction and sing for a small group using songs they or their instructor choose. Nancy Davis will teach the class.

CMD also offers private and group instruction in piano, organ, guitar, strings, winds and Suzuki Violin. All classes meet in Krieg Hall on the Wittenberg University campus. For more information and advance registration, call the CMD office at (937) 327-7050.
