Dayton Contemporary Dance Company Adds Artistic Edge To 2007-08 Witt Series

Oct. 29, 2007

Dayton Contemporary Dance Company
Springfield, Ohio – Wittenberg University has hosted a diverse selection of lecturers through the first two months of the 2007-08 Witt Series. The next event offers a change of pace as Wittenberg welcomes the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company (DCDC) at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, in Kuss Auditorium at the Clark State Performing Arts Center, located on South Fountain Ave. in downtown Springfield.

DCDC's performance is sponsored by Qbase, a global leader in data management, data analysis and strategic consulting solutions now with operations in the Springfield area.

Founded by Jeraldyne Blunden, a native of Dayton, Ohio, DCDC is a contemporary dance troupe that has enlightened audiences worldwide since 1968. DCDC has made it a goal to enrich as diverse an audience as possible with a blend of both classic and new works, which has garnered national attention and acclaim. DCDC has the largest collection of classic works from African American choreographers in the world.

"DCDC is one of the big success stories in American modern dance, an art form that supposedly flourishes best in New York is Ohio's own Dayton Contemporary Dance Company," said Anna Kisselgoff of The New York Times.

As the company's popularity has grown, so has its repertoire. In recent years, DCDC commissioned new works by Bill T. Jones, Doug Varone, Jawole Willa Jo Zollar, Bebe Miller, Dwight Rhoden and Ronald K. Brown.

"DCDC is vulnerable and impassioned," said Carol Norris of the Cincinnati Enquirer. "They pull you into their world of spirited dance."
