Following her husband’s sudden death of a heart attack while on a mission trip to Africa in August 2000, Dyer Wuchter thought his words would never again reach the ears of his beloved congregations. Thanks to her efforts, though, his message spanning nearly 30 years of service can now reach readers everywhere.
“I believe this is an example of the power of prayer,” Dyer Wuchter said. “I attribute God’s Spirit at work in bringing about the first and now the second collection of sermons.”
In this latest collection, Dyer Wuchter takes some of her husband’s most memorable messages and brings them together for celebrating the Advent, Christmas and Epiphany seasons.
“I like to think God wants Michael’s ministry to continue, now in a new form,” Dyer Wuchter said.
During his 17 years at Wittenberg, Wuchter served on the president’s cabinet and conducted a 75-hour-a-week program of campus ministry. Throughout his career, Wuchter was involved in numerous organizations and committees concerning disabilities, hunger, environmental issues, campus and prison ministry, refugee settlement, peace education, international service and ecumenical relations. In 1993, he received the prestigious Alumni Association Class of 1914 Award for meritorious service above what might be expected to any contributor to his alma mater’s welfare.
Wuchter also served as pastor of the First Lutheran Church in Duluth, Minn., and Resurrection Lutheran Church in Hamilton Square, N.J. His sermons combine biblical passages, parables, personal stories and other outside sources to bring faith, hope and love throughout all seasons.
