"We are very thrilled to welcome Brenda to the Wittenberg family. She was the top choice of the search committee, our faculty and staff and has a proven record in fundraising," Erickson said. "Not only are Brenda's credentials and experience very impressive, but she also fits with the Wittenberg culture, has a clear commitment to our mission and values, and is excited about fueling our strategic plan."
Throughout her 25-year career in university development and alumni relations, Duncan has consistently exceeded expectations. In addition to completing three capital campaigns for both private and public institutions, Duncan has been leader in fundraising, staff management, board and community relations, working with volunteers, marketing and strategic planning.
Prior to her current position, where she just launched a multimillion-dollar campaign, Duncan spent seven years in various roles at the Darden Graduate School of Business at the University of Virginia (UVA), most recently as its managing director of development. During her tenure, Duncan developed strategies related to major gifts, the annual fund, corporate and foundation relations, and alumni programming for a $200 million campaign and a $150 million campaign, both under UVA umbrella campaigns of $3 billion $1 billion, respectively.
Before joining Darden's team, Duncan was the director of development at the University of Akron dedicated to the College of Business Administration (CBA), where she worked with the Goodyear Executive Leadership Forum, which recognized numerous business leaders, including Hiroski Okuda of Toyota, Roger Penske, J.D. Power, Stanley Gault and W.R. Timken.
Duncan has also held a number of other positions in her career. As the development officer for public affairs at the University of Hartford in Connecticut from 1993-1995, Duncan advanced the annual fund and Telefund. Additionally, Duncan was the executive director of alumnae programs at Wilson College in Chambersburg, Pa., and she served on the National Alumni Board of Directors at Ohio University.
"I am looking forward to creatively managing and leading Wittenberg through the next phase of fundraising in preparation for another campaign," Duncan said. "I am also excited about the opportunity to be a part of Wittenberg's future and forward momentum as a team player in university advancement."
Duncan, who hails from Marietta, Ohio, earned her B.S. in communications from Ohio University and her M.Ed. from Temple University. She and her husband Doug look forward to joining the Springfield community.
