Wittenberg Hosts Jazz And Blues Music Workshop

Sept. 4, 2008

Performers entertain during the 2007 Jazz and Blues Workshop.
Springfield, Ohio — Wittenberg will host its seventh annual jazz and blues music workshop, featuring performers from Antioch College's African American Cross-Cultural Works Blues and Jazz Festival, from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, in Krieg Hall, room 300.

Featured performers include Karen Patterson and her jazz ensemble, blues guitarist Nerak Roth Patterson, Baoku Moses and members of his band, Baoku and the Image Afro-Beat Band, and hip-hop artist IC.

The event is a prelude to the festival in nearby Yellow Springs. Music starts at the African American Cross-Cultural Works Blues and Jazz Festival at 7 p.m. Friday and runs through midnight. On Saturday, there will be an open stage for performers in the afternoon, with musical performances beginning at 6 p.m. and running through midnight. The music continues on Sunday with a performance by Guy Davis and others.

The African American Cross-Cultural Works organization is a non-profit group that attempts to forge closer links among people from all backgrounds. The jazz and blue music workshop at Wittenberg is sponsored by Wittenberg Music Department, Africana Studies, the Honors Program, American Studies, Global Studies, Multicultural Student Programs, Concerned Black Students, the Office of the Provost and the WittSem class taught by Professor of Economics David Wishart. It is free and open to the public.
