The Wittenberg students are involved with the Wittenberg Center for Applied Management, better known as WittCAM. Through WittEnterprises, a division of WittCAM, they are contributing to two major areas of the business, marketing and sales, and title selection. The intent is to learn more about the business in preparation for potentially taking control of Audio Bookshelf in the future.
Two teams of students have been assembled by Wayne Maurer, associate professor of management, and Pamela Schindler, professor of management and WittCAM director. Each has distinct tasks assigned for completion by the end of the 2008 fall semester.
Maurer's three students, Maureen Walsh, class of 2009 from Highland Heights, Ohio, Sara Wheeler, class of 2010 from Bucyrus, Ohio, and Todd Carter, class of 2011 from Troy, Ohio, are part of the "Title Selection" team.
"Our main task is to get in contact with librarians who are willing to serve on our advisory committee, and aid in the process of selecting books for these readers," Walsh said.
Schindler's four students, Rosel Spiker, class of 2009 from Fairborn, Ohio, Ben Adams, class of 2010 from Eaton, Ohio, Kerry Siddens, class of 2010 from Vandalia, Ohio, and Isabel Fernandez, class of 2012 from Murcia, Spain, make up the sales and marketing team.
"The task of the marketing group is basically to differentiate this company, and help come up with different strategies and slogans to help improve its sales," Wheeler stated.
The joint venture figures to be a winning situation for all involved, Walsh and Wheeler both said. Wittenberg students gain valuable real-world experience, the Management Department has a new educational resource, and Audio Bookshelf has the opportunity to evaluate future business opportunities.
"Mr. Dittmann is so open to new ideas, and he explained his desire to mentor students and teach them what life is like in the real world through this real-life working experience," Walsh said.
