Wittenberg's Annual CROP Hunger Walk
To Raise Funds To Fight Hunger Oct. 5

Sept. 26, 2008

Springfield, Ohio — Wittenberg University will hold its annual CROP Hunger Walk, a ministry of Church World Services (CWS), at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5. Organized by the Weaver Chapel Association and the university's Office of the Pastor, the event not only raises money to fight hunger at home and around the world, it provides an opportunity to raise awareness of hunger issues and the work of CWS/CROP.

Registration begins at 1:30 p.m., at the stage on Alumni Way, just outside of the Benham-Pence Student Center, where the walk begins. The planned route follows Fountain Avenue south along the renovated Esplanade and the Clark County Historical Society to the First Baptist Church in the South Fountain Historic District. It continues east to Limestone Street and north past the old South High School before heading back to campus, where participants will enjoy a popcorn snack. The total walk is more than three miles and should take a little more than an hour to complete.

Registration envelopes are available at the Benham-Pence Student Center and Weaver Chapel. All walkers must register, and all envelopes must be returned at the end of the event, whether or not funds are raised.

Everyone is invited to participate in the CROP Hunger Walk, either by walking, or by using a stroller, wheelchair or other assistance. Bicycles are discouraged as the walk joins in solidarity with those whose only option for transportation is to walk (CROP's theme is "we walk because they walk").

Twenty-five percent of the proceeds stay in Springfield to be donated to the Second Harvest Food Pantry.
