Wittenberg To Host Public Forum On
Faith And Politics Oct. 26

Oct. 23, 2008

As the leaves turn in an election year, it is time for a serious discussion of the issues, like Wittenberg's "Faith & Politics: A Public Forum."
Springfield, Ohio — Fittingly in an election year, Wittenberg will host "Faith & Politics: A Public Forum" at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, in the university's Joseph C. Shouvlin Center for Lifelong Learning, Room 105.

The non-partisan forum, which will include representatives of the local Christian, Muslim and Jewish communities, is free and open to the public. Those religious leaders will join a multi-generational panel to discuss political world views and election-year issues.

Moderated by Wittenberg Professor of Political Science Rob Baker, the forum will begin with presentations by Mark Smith, Cedarville University's director of the Center for Political Studies, who will discuss "My Journey of Faith, and Why I Support John McCain," and C. Joseph Sprague, bishop-in-residence at Covenant United Methodist Church, who will discuss "My Journey of Faith, and Why I Support Barack Obama."

The brainchild of Gary Percesepe, pastor of Highlands United Church of Christ, the event also includes forum panelists and local residents Faye Flack, Parveen Mohammed, Carolyn Fleming and Ken Marsenburg, Wright State student Kanesha Hall, Clark State student Richard Brown and Wittenberg student Caryn Painter.

Wittenberg's political science, religion and sociology departments and Pastor’s Office, an organization of Springfield-area clergy and Greater Dayton Christian Connections are sponsoring the forum. Call (937) 215-6172 for more information.
