Community Messiah Sing

Nov. 24, 2008

Stained glass windows surround visitors to Wittenberg's historic Weaver Chapel.
Springfield, Ohio — Wittenberg University will host the 27th annual Community Sing of George Friedrich Handel's Messiah at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8, in Weaver Chapel. The concert, in which the audience is the chorus, is sponsored by the Wittenberg's Department of Music, the Ruth B. and Thomas F. Mackey Foundation and Choral Arts of Springfield.

Soloists for the performance include Amy Lord and Kay Kulma, class of 2009 from Lakewood, Ohio, both singing soprano, Carla Dry, alto, Jason Heister, tenor, and Professor of Music and Chair of the Department David Schubert, baritone. Professor of Music Trudy Faber will accompany on the organ and harpsichord. Adjunct Instructor of Music Basil Fett will conduct.

Instrumental section leaders and soloists include Adjunct Instructor of Music Lesa DeBorde and Chris Walters both playing the violin, Patricia King playing the viola and Rebecca Parker Downs playing the violoncello.

Established choirs of Wittenberg and the surrounding Springfield area public are urged to attend the event and enjoy this unique singing experience. Singers are asked to bring their own complete score, although the admission is free.
