Ensemble Playing I and II for Children offers a class for violin students studying the Suzuki method of teaching in 30-minute sessions. These classes develop skills that allow students to play together in large or small ensembles. Parents are expected to attend the classes with their children. Classes will meet at a time to be announced on Friday, Feb. 6, Friday, March 6, and Friday, April 3. All classes will meet in Krieg Hall Room 305 with Carol Pederson providing instruction. The cost of the class is $22.95, plus a $5 registration fee if the student is new.
Beginning Piano for Kids offers first piano lessons in a small group setting and the opportunity to learn to read music and musical notation, find keyboard landmarks and play rhythms. Students will play music of increasing challenge in Wittenberg's state-of-the-art piano lab. Kindergarten through second grade students should purchase the Bastien Piano Basic The Young Beginner Book A, while students in grades 3-5 need the Bastien Piano Basic Piano Primer Book. Classes for students K-2 will meet from 10-10:45 a.m. every Saturday between Jan. 10 and Feb. 14 and students in grades 3-5 will meet from 10:45-11:30 a.m. on the same dates. All classes will meet in Krieg Hall Room 301 with Tiffany Cary providing instruction. The cost of the six-week class is $77.
Beginning Piano for High School and Adults offers small group instruction that teaches students to read music, musical notation and rhythms in Wittenberg's state-of-the-art piano lab. Classes meet from 7-7:45 p.m. every Friday between Jan. 16 and March 6. All classes will meet in Krieg Hall Room 301 with Jack McPeek providing instruction. The cost of the eight-week class is $100.
Beginning Piano for Grades 6-12 teaches students the fundamentals of piano performance and basic music reading skills in to read music, musical notation and rhythms in Wittenberg's state-of-the-art piano lab. Simple melodies and chords will be introduced, using the Afred Adult All in One Piano Course Level One book. Classes meet from 4:30-5:30 p.m. every Wednesday between Jan. 14 and March 4. All classes will meet in Krieg Hall Room 301 with Tonya Reynolds providing instruction. The cost of the eight-week class is $132.
Opera Appreciation is a class that will survey operas from the Classical and Romantic eras and 20th century (e.g. Mozart, Verdi, Wagner and Puccini). Students will learn about the various styles and sections of an opera, including recitative, arias, Italian, French, German and English opera. The course involves watching and analyzing selected parts of operas from various genres, and there is a possible trip at the end of the term to the Dayton Opera. Classes meet from 6-7 p.m. every Wednesday between Jan. 14 and March 4. All classes will meet in Krieg Hall Room 301 with Tonya Reynolds providing instruction. The cost of the eight-week class is $132.
In addition, private lessons are available for piano, string instruments, wind instruments, voice, percussion and Suzuki Violin.
