Christine McIntyreHoward Choy, Assistant Professor of Chinese Language and Cultural Studies

Jan. 30, 2008

Howard Choy, assistant professor of Chinese languages and cultural studies, was recently featured on the BBC radio program Laughter Close to Tears.

According to the BBC, the program, "uncovers humour in terrible times, crossing the globe from Burma to Zimbabwe to hear contemporary jokes from those chafing under repressive or omnipresent regimes." Choy was interviewed to talk about political jokes in modern China.

The BBC archives each of its programs and Choy's commentary can be heard in the last five minutes of the 30-minute show, hosted by Michael Rosen, which originally aired on Jan. 28, 2008.
