As part of the 2007-08 Global Education Speakers Series, Professor of Biology and Chair of the Department Tim Lewis made a presentation titled “What’s Hot And What’s Not: Global Warming” April 10 at the Clark County Public Library in Springfield. Lewis, who holds a bachelor’s degree from Augustana and master’s and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, discussed what science can offer in understanding global warming and explored the boundaries of what is still unknown about it and its effects. The Global Education Speakers Series is sponsored by the Global Education and Peace Network, and the Clark County Public Library. The theme of this year’s series is “Think Globally, Act Locally.” |

The Global Education and Peace Network organized in response to Study Circles, which discussed reactions and responses to the events that took place on Sept. 11, 2001. The 12 programs in the 2007-08 series include issues of local and global importance, and give citizens an opportunity to consider their role in a democracy to build a better world.
