The second annual Witt Law Day, hosted by Wittenberg University’s Pre-Law Association, took place Thursday, April 3, in the Joseph C. Shouvlin Center for Lifelong Learning. The 2008 event featured presentations by Judge Denise Moody of Clark County Municipal Court and University of Dayton Professor of Law Pamela Laufer-Ukeles, and a demonstration by Wittenberg’s Mock Trial Association. Moody spoke and then fielded questions about a variety of legal issues, while Laufer-Ukeles gave a presentation titled “Unraveling Legal Dilemmas: The Case of Surrogate Motherhood.” The Mock Trial Association fields competitive teams that have won bids to national tournaments in two of the organization’s five years of existence. |
The team has earned Honorable Mention awards in both national tournament appearances and has ranked in the top 25 percent nationally while frequently competing against much larger institutions. Individual members have won best attorney and best witness awards in recent years.
The Pre-Law Association was created to provide students interested in attending law school or pursuing a career in law with resources to help them succeed. In addition to Witt Law Day, the organization hosts practice LSAT sessions with peers, workshops to help with applications, community service projects, a film series and law school visits, including a trip to the University of Toledo in 2007 to hear United States Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia speak.
