Wittenberg Hosts Annual Faculty And Seniors
Dance Concert To Benefit Project Woman

April 19, 2009

Springfield, Ohio — Wittenberg's annual Faculty and Seniors Dance Concert, a capstone project for seniors with a minor in dance, is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 24 and 25, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 26, in Chakeres Memorial Theatre, 905 Woodlawn Ave. The concert is free, and tickets will be available one hour before each performance on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The concert will include approximately 25 dancers performing a variety of dance styles that incorporate modern, jazz and hip hop. All pieces were choreographed by students as part of their minor/major requirement.

Senior dance major Greta Hysjulien, from White Bear Lake, Minn., will present her senior capstone choreography, and this year's senior dance minors are Blaire Butler from Cincinnati, Ohio; Jordan Davis from Maineville, Ohio; Kelliea Johnson from Canton, Ohio; David Kabbes from Springfield, Ohio; Rachel Lind from Gahanna, Ohio; and Jennifer Petro from Louisville, Ky.

Associate Professor of Theatre and Dance Ligia Pinheiro will perform with pianist Juan Francisco La Manna, a guest artist from the State University of New York at Oswego. Pinheiro’s performance is the result of her movement research on the early 20th century modern dancer Isadora Duncan and is supported by a Faculty Research Fund Board Grant.

The concerts benefit Springfield’s Project Woman, which provides support, shelter and resources for victims of domestic abuse. Donations of non-perishable food and personal care items, as well as cash and gift cards, will be accepted at the door.
