Moore felt so academically and socially prepared for his college experience at Wittenberg that he feels he owes something to the Dublin City School District. Serving on his hometown board of education seemed a fitting way to return the favor.
"My time spent in the district was wonderful," said Moore, who is majoring in psychology and also has a double minor in music and Spanish at Wittenberg. "The school system was academically challenging and socially inspiring. The environment overwhelmingly prepared me for Wittenberg and any future goals I will work to achieve."
If Moore is fortunate enough to be elected to the board, he says he will be busy overseeing a treasurer and superintendent, adopting curriculums, planning student services and generally ensuring that the district maintains a high quality educational environment for the community.
While the job may seem a little unusual – not to mention a lot of responsibility for someone so young – Moore says he is ready and willing for the juggling act of being a student and a member of a board of education.
"Maintaining college life here at Witt is very important to me," Moore said. "I will need to stay focused and manage my time well. I always say, once I commit to something, I stay committed. I will work my hardest to succeed in every way possible, never being satisfied with the minimum."
Moore also acknowledged the role that Wittenberg played in his decision to take on such a demanding task. He says the "wonderful" education he is getting at Wittenberg has inspired him to give back to his home community.
"I had such a successful year academically and socially," he said. "It was amazing for me to see how Wittenberg not only provided me with an education, but the people, both staff and students, became my family."
While pursuing three areas of academic concentration, Moore has still managed to save extracurricular time for the Outdoors Club, Emerging Leaders Program, jazz and symphonic band, peer mentors and the Beta Theta Pi fraternity. Despite the fact that he is running a campaign and may soon hold a significant position at home in Dublin, located about one hour from Wittenberg, he plans to continue to participate in many of these activities and maintain as much normalcy in his college life as possible.
"I look forward to getting involved and making the most of the many opportunities Wittenberg has to offer while at the same time running my campaign for the Dublin Schools Board of Education," Moore said.
