Wittenberg students hand out candy during the 2007 Make a Difference Day event. |
The Make a Difference Day Halloween Festival is aimed at kids ages 3-12 and will take place from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in the Benham-Pence Student Center, the New Residence Hall and in the Joseph C. Shouvlin Center for Lifelong Learning. The festival includes various Halloween-themed activities, and costumes are definitely encouraged. Many of the volunteers, who will lead the children through the activities, are members of Wittenberg's fraternities and sororities, and leaders in the university's Student Senate.
This day of giving is part of the annual nationwide celebration that occurs every year in October. Wittenberg has participated in the celebration for many years, but this will be the fourth straight year that the day of giving will be Halloween-themed and focused on giving back to children in the Springfield area.
"Every year Make a Difference Day grows stronger, larger and more fun," said student organizer Kiara Heidenreich, class of 2010 from Dayton, Ohio. "The Wittenberg campus community has come to embrace this tradition, and seeing the Springfield children who come back each year, the event helps to build a true bond between the city and our university.
"Halloween is a busy time of year, but our office always looks forward to this event."
To register, visit the Wittenberg Community Service Web site or call the office at (937) 327-7523. Online registration will be available starting Monday, Oct. 12.
