Wittenberg Professor Emeritus Conrad Balliet
Honored With Poetry Reading

Nov. 6, 2009

Book Cover
Springfield, Ohio — Local poets will gather for the second annual tribute to Wittenberg University Professor Emeritus of English and Yeats Scholar Conrad Balliet for his efforts over the years to promote poetry throughout the Miami Valley.

The Poetry Reading takes place from 2-3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, in Room 163B, Student Union, Wright State University at 3640 Colonel Glenn Highway, Dayton, Ohio. The event is free and open to the public, and everyone is invited to bring a poem to read during "open mic" time.

Balliet was a Wittenberg faculty member from 1961 to 1992, teaching courses on Victorian literature and Irish writers, focusing on Yeats and Joyce. He has read poetry as the host of a radio show, Conrad's Corner, for many years on WYSO 91.3-FM. The show can be heard at 7:59 p.m. weekdays, and at 2 p.m. Saturdays, and Balliet is also a regular on the WYSO show Weekend Sundays, which can be heard at 10:30 a.m. each week.

On WYSO's Web site, Balliet is quoted as saying he taught "English and Anglo-Irish literature at Wittenberg, and he would read and recite poetry whenever possible, and encourage people to share his appreciation and love of meter and rhyme."

His memoir, cb: Remembrances, is available in the Wittenberg Bookstore. For more information about the tribute Poetry Reading, call (937) 775-2263.
